The Neev Literary Festival (NLF) has announced its inaugural fellowships for children's book writers and illustrators to promote high-quality, deeply detailed children's books that bring Indian identities and experiences to life.
The fellowship accepts submissions from children's book creators to create a book in English for young readers of any genre. The NLF Fellowships will provide chosen book creators with a grant of Rs 6,00,000 for a year to study and write their book. The fellowship is open to Indian nationals and residents of Indian descent.
The scholarships aim to "address a vacuum that will hopefully inspire Indian writers to begin on inventive, ambitious, and research-driven work for Indian audiences that is anchored in Indianness," according to Kavita Gupta Sabharwal, co-founder of the Neev Literary Festival. Besides financial assistance, the NLF Fellowships will give mentorship and editorial help, increasing visibility and exposure to a worldwide readership.
The fellowship application period began on March 31 and will end on June 30. The fellowship awardees will be revealed at the Neev Literary Festival in October 2023. The fellowship jury includes Kavita Gupta Sabharwal, Ameen Haque (creator of Storywallahs), and Karthika Gopalakrishnan (director, NLF).
